Philadelphia Pastel Society Workshop Payment and Refund Policy for all Workshops
Full payment is required at the time of registration to reserve your place in a workshop. If a workshop is full, you will be put onto a wait list based upon first come, first served and notified as soon as there is a cancellation.
If you cancel your reservation for a workshop 15 days or more prior to a workshop, we will refund the full workshop tuition.
If you cancel your reservation less than 15 days prior to the workshop, we will attempt to fill the opening from the wait list. If your spot is then filled, you will be refunded your full workshop tuition.
If we cannot fill your spot from the wait list, you may put forward someone who wishes to take your place at the workshop and collect your reimbursement from your replacement.
If no replacement is found for your reserved place at the workshop, your payment will not be refunded.
If PPS cancels a Workshop for any reason, you will be notified as soon as possible and given a full refund.
Past Workshops & Demonstrations
The workshop with Sandra Burshell is cancelled due to difficulty in enrollment of enough artists to make the event financially viable. Sandra Burshell is disappointed, but we hope to invite her back in the future. Those artists who have registered for her workshop will be refunded. Thank you for your understanding.

Reserve October 25 for our fall members meeting at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA
Paula Brown will present a demonstration after our president, Blanche Torphy, briefly brings us up to date about PPS happenings.
“Creating a Narrative: Figure in an Urban Setting”
Member registration ($250) opens on April 7, 2025.
Nonmember registration ($300) opens on April 14, 2025.
A maximum of 16 students will be enrolled.
This general members meeting will be virtual. There will be a brief overview of upcoming events for 2025 by President, Blanche Levitt Torphy followed by a Virtual Demo with Eve Miller Eve will talk about her underpainting technique and painting process as she gives her demonstration.
Eve is an award-winning pastel artist, born in Brussels, Belgium. and moved with her family moved from Europe to the Hudson River Valley in New York. She now holds a BA, an MA, and a DA in French and Spanish. She has taught college and secondary school classes. and now lives in the Low Country, South Carolina where she finds her inspiration in marshes, the coastline, and skies of the surrounding landscape.

Stephanie Brown, one of our own special signature members, will present a demonstration after our president, Blanche Torphy, briefly brings us up to date about PPS happenings.
In this 2-day in-person workshop Margaret Dyer will teach traditional pastel techniques. Working from life and photos of a model taken during class, students will explore drawing, composition, anatomy, proportion, value, color, and medium application. Emphasis will be on developing form using light and shadow. Margaret’s easy step-by-step method simplifies the complicated.
Highly acclaimed national pastelist, Margaret Dyer, is conducting a workshop here on October 16-17 While her workshop is now full, Margaret is also offering a Demo late in the day on October 15 for both workshop artists and others who wish to attend. There is a $25 fee for artists who wish to come to A MEET AND GREET and DEMO ONLY.
Our Annual Members Meeting is on Saturday, November 11, at 10 o’clock at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford. This marks the fourth anniversary of the first members meeting of the Philadelphia Pastel Society. An artist demo will be presented by our own PPS member, Teresa DeSeve.
We will be electing officers at this meeting. More information about the agenda will be posted here soon.
Anne Strutz PSA, IAPS/MC will hold a one-day “MARKS IN MOTION” workshop to follow up on her Presentation and Demo scheduled at our April 13 membership meeting.

Our Annual Members Meeting is on Saturday, October 29, at 10 o’clock at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford. This marks the third anniversary of the first members meeting of the Philadelphia Pastel Society. An artist demo will be presented by our own PPS member, Joe Kluck.
A three day workshop to be presented at the Community Arts Center with reknowned pastelist, Dawn Emerson. Dawn will also be the jurist for our planned National Exhibition in September, 2022.

This general members meeting will be virtual. A brief informational meeting will be followed by a Virtual 1 ½ hour Demo with Nancie King Mertz. Nancie teaches across the US and internationally and is on the faculty for the Plein Air Convention and the IAPS Convention. Our Annual Members Meeting is on Friday, October 15th at 10 o’clock at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford. It marks the second anniversary of the first members meeting of the Philadelphia Pastel Society. An artist demo will be presented by our own PPS member, Carol Kardon.
The next Philadelphia Pastel Society meeting will be held in the outside yard at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford. Anne Whalon will give a plein air demonstration.

On January 16 we are presenting an exciting online demo from Stan Sperlak. Stan will demonstrate while explaining his pastel technique and offer a question and answer period for all attendees. Stan was our judge of awards for our Online Members Exhibit. He offers his own workshops as well as workshops from other well-known pastelists through his studio/gallery in Goshen, New Jersey.
Doug Tweddale shares his impressive pastel skills in a special two-day workshop for PPS members. Scheduled for 9:00 - 4:00 each day.
