Paula Brown
Paula Brown is a ”Heartist” whose paintings express and reflect the light and heart of nature. Her muse is nature. Her joy is to capture its soul essence, moods, light, shapes; the patterns that draw us into valuable healing connections within its world. Paula’s work has gained her national and international awards, as well as Signature status in both the Philadelphia and Maryland Pastel Societies. Paula is a Signature member of the Philadelphia Pastel Society and the Maryland Pastel Society. She received her BFA from the University of Washington and had a substantial career over a 20-year span as an art director/creative director in advertising in Seattle, Boston, and California. She relocated to Delaware from California. Her most recent honor is being named a 2025 Fellow by the Delaware Arts Council. She has taught workshops and classes in pastels, oils, line/watercolor Heart Scape Journaling, on both coasts from Los Angeles, CA to Wilmington, DE.
Paula’s artistic practice (both in oils and soft pastel) employs underpainting techniques on surfaces that range from canvas to soft pastel papers, experimenting with texture to reveal movement in nature. She works to create “an impressionistic luminosity with unique marks of color and tone” that reveals “the light in nature and in people”.
Paula will demonstrate her underpainting technique and how she paints skies, and particularly interesting and dramatic clouds. You can learn more about Paula and her artwork at: www.paulabrowncreative.com.
