Margaret Dyer In-Person Workshop
In this 2-day in-person workshop Margaret Dyer will teach traditional pastel techniques. Working from life and photos of a model taken during class, students will explore drawing, composition, anatomy, proportion, value, color, and medium application. Emphasis will be on developing form using light and shadow. Margaret’s easy step-by-step method simplifies the complicated.

Highly acclaimed national pastelist, Margaret Dyer, is conducting a workshop here on October 16-17 While her workshop is now full, Margaret is also offering a Demo late in the day on October 15 for both workshop artists and others who wish to attend. There is a $25 fee for artists who wish to come to A MEET AND GREET and DEMO ONLY.
Plein Air - End of Season Plein Air Show and Celebration
Come to celebrate a successful plein air season at East Goshen Park!
Saturday, October 12, 2:00 – 6:00 pm

Setup for artists begins at 1:00 pm
Plein Air – Newlin Grist Mill
This park, just off route 1, is on the site of an 18th century grist mill. On one side of the road are the old buildings from the 1700s. On the other side with the parking lot there are woods, and a system of old canals that carried the water to the mill and are now being expanded to include a wetlands area.
Plein Air – Sugartown Strawberries Produce Market
This outdoor produce market has a wonderful assortment of fall flowers and veggies. Plus it will be almost pumpkin season. In addition to the display carts, there are fields behind that make good painting subjects. Since this is a Saturday Plein Air, the market will be busy. Come a bit early and park farther away in the parking lot, leaving room for customers. And maybe carpool if possible. Again, please let us know if you’re coming. Pat (rileypat@gmail.com)
Plein Air at The Willows Park
The Willows is a beautiful park on Darby Paoli Road, Villanova. There is a pond, a little bridge to an island, and sometimes people fishing.
It is very helpful for us to have a sense of who is coming, so please let Kathy (fourbeank@aol.com) or Pat (rileypat@gmail.com) know.

Plein Air at General Knox's Quarters Valley Forge
There's a large parking lot near General Knox's quarters in the southwest corner of Valley Forge, and it's a short walk over to the buildings, the stream and fields. Plein Air at Brandywine Park
Brandywine Park is located off of 95 south exit 8, in Wilmington, Delaware, about 18 miles south of Media, PA. Painting subjects include several bridges, monuments, a fountain, and a waterfall, all connected by paved paths. The zoo is nearby as well, and porta potties are located under the Van Buren bridge by the parking area. There’s also a picnic area so you can bring your lunch.
Plein Air at Chanticleer
$15 entry fee, $8 with a Radnor library card, free with membership.
The gates do not open before 10:00 so please don’t arrive early and block the street. You will need parking reservations. Go to chanticleergarden.org and click on “visitors information and parking” to make a free reservation.
There are picnic areas, so bring lunch if you’d like.
Plein Air Painting at the Hermitage
Betsy Miraglia has graciously offered to let us paint at her home at The Hermitage in Bryn Mawr. This beautiful site offers woods, a gazebo, a pond, and gardens. Please note the later starting time -- 11 am. We'll paint for a while and then have lunch on her back patio. Don't forget to pack your lunch!

2023 Fall Members Meeting & Demonstration
Our Annual Members Meeting is on Saturday, November 11, at 10 o’clock at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford. This marks the fourth anniversary of the first members meeting of the Philadelphia Pastel Society. An artist demo will be presented by our own PPS member, Teresa DeSeve.
We will be electing officers at this meeting. More information about the agenda will be posted here soon.
Plein Air End of Year Exhibition
Our Plein Air Exhibition coincides with the Annual East Goshen Township Food Truck and Music Festival. It will be near the stage area of East Goshen Park. All PPS members, friends and family members (including dogs) are invited to come! There will be a variety of foods, and wine and beer for purchase, and different bands will be playing from 2:30 – 6 pm.
Plein Air at Dalton Farms for Sunflowers, Dahlias and Zinnias
Join us for a fun day painting sunflowers, goats and chickens! We will meet in the parking lot at 10 am. The staff usually have shuttles to take you to the sunflower fields. Pack a lunch and enjoy visiting with your fellow pastel painters!
Tickets can be purchased in advance online at www.daltonfarms.com for $13 ($15.37 with tax and fees). Tickets purchased on day of visit are $18.

Our second National exhibition is now in progress at the Wayne Art Center in Wayne, PA. A reception will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023

Our next plein air meetup will be in the quaint town of Wayne, PA. Raindate is Friday, September 8. We will meet at 10 am in the Wayne Train Station parking lot.

Who needs Chanticleer when we have Blanche? Our president, Blanche Levitt Torphy and her husband Ted have an absolutely gorgeous backyard. Ted is an incredible gardener, and their yard is filled with beautiful plants, different environments, and interesting views and corners.

Anne Strutz PSA, IAPS/MC will hold a one-day “MARKS IN MOTION” workshop to follow up on her Presentation and Demo scheduled at our April 13 membership meeting.

Plein Air at Dalton Tulip Farm
Tickets are $12 plus tax and fees online or $16 walk up gate admission if tickets are still available. Tickets are non refundable, and the farm is open rain or shine. I suggest waiting til Tuesday so you can check out the weather before buying tickets.
